The Hanbali school is the smallest of the four major Sunni Islamic jurisprudence schools, based on Ahmad ibn Hanbal's teachings. Unlike others, Hanbalis oppose codifying law into a comprehensive system, emphasising the Qur'an and Hadith as the highest sources.
