Game concept
Recover from Excommunication
From the game's encyclopedia
When a Character is Excommunicated, they suffer immediate harm and ongoing restrictions until absolution.
Upon excommunication, they immediately suffer:
• Major Legitimacy loss
• One Level of Devotion lost
• -50% Piety gain while the Trait remains
• Loss of Spiritual Fulfillment
While Excommunicated, they are restricted from:
• Holding or attending a Coronation
• Using the Seek Indulgences Interaction
• Divorce through the Church
• Hiring Holy Orders
They may also face:
• The Recent Excommunication Modifier, which blocks absolution for one year
• An Excommunication War from neighboring Rulers of the same Faith, if they are an Independent Ruler
Absolution can be sought by:
• Dukes and below (local excommunication): Make Declaration of Repentance with a valid cleric (your Head of Faith if no lesser cleric outranks you)
• All Rulers excommunicated by your Head of Faith, or ruling a kingdom or empire: petition your Head of Faith in person and choose Lift Excommunication
• Winning an Excommunication War as the defender
• Converting to another Faith
After absolution, sponsoring a Challenger Head of Faith can protect a Ruler from future Excommunication by the Mainline Rite Head of Faith.
