Contestant
The game also links it as Contestants.
From the game's encyclopedia
In order to compete in Grand Tournament Contests, you must fulfill its requirements. Board Games allow all characters to compete, while others, like Wrestling, depend on Martial rules.
Non-competing characters will be Spectators, and potential Contestants may opt-out of participating if they wish to spectate.
Eligibility to enter Contests is determined by gender and health, based on the host's Culture and Religion.
