This mosque has a venerable story to tell. Here many centuries of spirituality and wondrous ingenuity are stratified one over the other as it is built on top of a Roman temple and an early Christian Basilica. The building is renowned for its opulent and colorful marbles, as well as its golden mosaics pieced together by artists from as far as Constantinople.
